Well, DUMP NORTON PRODUCTS to begin with.
Then get a real Anti-Virus program. AVG (Free) or PCcillin by Trend Micro.
Norton is more trouble than it is worth (like AOL). It is not at all
suitable for Windows XP.
I have had 100's of customers complain (and rightly so) of Norton problems
and I have repaired many computers corrupted with Norton products.
So, Save oyur data and personal files.
Format your hard drive , do a clean install of Windows XP, update it,
install AVG or Trend Micro Anti-Virus, update them (regularly), turn built
in firewall ON, install Zone Alarm (free version), Run Spybot Search and
destroy (or ADAWARE) often, (once or twice a week), Run hijackthis once a
week, Use Firefox (by Mozilla) for a web browser and don't use Internet
Explorer. Internet Explorer allows viruses and trojans to enter at will
(contrary to what these "MVP's" tell you). Be carefule of what Web Sites you
visit (no porn, warez, music). Don't open emails when you are not sure what
is in them. (not even from people you know.
That will solve most if not all your computer virus, spyware problems.
