HotBar issue update

Thank you for your suggestions regarding this problem. I went to my dads
today to try some of the suggested actions. However, when i tried to boot the
computer using safe mode, the screen froze up and it would'nt let me do
anything. I shut the computer down using the power button but when I started
it back up the monitor would not come on (it remained on standby mode but
would not give me a screen).
What could be causing this? Have I done more harm than good?
