New virus or not, not the point. I have the same (related) problem.
If I go to the hijackthis website in IE, the affending program shuts
down IE.

So I downloaded it onto my laptop and put it on a cd. When I put the
cd in my desktop cd drive, the hijackthis file does not show, even
though the other files in put on the cd do show.

This is a pretty sneaky virus, whatever it is. I still have not found
a way to run hijackthis on my desktop. Any ideas?
