 From a post in symantec.support.winnt.nortonantivirus.General:

it seems that quite a few people are having this problem and Symantec
are aware of it (see:
http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=49758&messageID=591908)
and a fix is "promised" within 48 hours. Hopefully they will resolve
the issue and post a fix - so we can all avoid having to go through the
tedous re-install route...
