After reading all the stuff here I downloaded the EZ armore and EZ
Firewall and did an AdWare scan. The Adware found a virus called Alexa
and many other data mining cookies. So I deleted them all. Then EZ
Firewall found a worm as Outlook was receiving an email. It said it
removed the worm but the worm got through anyway and as a joke had the
"virus scan log" as the attachment! So these things seem very
intelligent. I don't know it still exists.
But before all that, I ran Pandasoftware's online scanning program. It
found a couple of things and removed them. My first question is; Does
panda online scan install any software on my computer that I need to
remove explicitly? That did not seems like a very clever thing to do.
I would be surprised that Panda does not install stuff of its own.
The second question is; Now that I have the EZ Armor, or whatever it
is called, it tells me that Microsoft Word is trying to connect to the
internet! Why is that? Is it broadcasting my entire "My Documents" to
the internet???
Also, I never use Microsoft Messenger and never will. At start up
Messenger apparently is trying to connect to te internet. What for?
How can I eliminate that stupid program?? Apparently msmsgs.exe is
trying to connect.
This computer is not on a network but initially it asked me about the
network connection on port 10.0.0.0 or something like that. I believe
this is the internet connection. So is it OK to say that that's a
trusted network?
Another thing I noticed is that, in the favorite folder all the files
I opened exist as internet Explorer files under My Computer! Why
is that? It seems impossible not to get paranoid! Why are there IE
versison of my Word files?
And EZ Firewall is not really free. It's a trial version for 2 days.
Probably I have other things to ask but next time. Thanks for anyone
who would explain this stuff to me.
It's like it's not worth it anymore! But anyway! Thanks.
