The reason the update shield is by the shutdown selection
is becaus the updates cannot be installed with certain
processed running, therefore it waits till you shutdown.
and even though you did not install or download the
updates you probably have "automatic updates" running
which downloads them automatically without asking you or
showing anything on the screen.
