Why would you think this is a virus and not hardware? It certainly
sounds more like hardware to me. A good way to test if it is a hardware
or Windows problem is to get Knoppix, a Linux distro that runs from cd.
You can get the .iso for Knoppix at www.knoppix.net. Obviously, you
would need to get this from a working pc that has a cd-rw and
third-party burning software to make the bootable cd from the .iso.
Then boot with Linux and if you have the same problems, you know it is
hardware.
