I am currently working on a Dell PC for a friend who was
foolish enough to be file-sharing and also not running an
anti-virus, or firewall. After cleaning the system of the
sasser AND blaster worms (among others) I cant get
windows update to work correctly. When I go to the
windows update page I get the error:

Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot
display the requested page. You may find the following
resources helpful in resolving the problem.
Error number: 0x80070424 (which from what I can tell has
nothing to do with my problem.)

Running XP home ed. SP1 is installed.
My thanks in advance...
