It could be something minor like a couple of .dll's need re-registering, or
it could be
more serious depending on any other symptoms.
Apart from the Hotmail page not working, are other web pages working ok?
Are any pages being re-directed to other sites?
If the answer is no, then the fix below has cured my and some other
update-hanging problems,
and won't do any harm if done correctly.
Click on START, and then RUN.
Paste in each line seen below - ONE LINE AT A TIME - and click OK.
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuapi.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuaueng.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\atl.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wucltui.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wups.dll
Then connect to:
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/default.aspx?ln=en
again.
I got this info from -
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,11026330~mode=flat
Hope this helps
