    It's generally not necessary, unless you're making a major change
like upgrading the operating system, in which case it's best to
completely uninstall NIS before proceeding. In particular, one
shouldn't disable one's protection while downloading anything from the
Internet. (If necessary, complete the download and disconnect from
the Internet _before_ disabling NIS and starting any installations.)
