Thanks for the replies about my virus. I am able to stay
online now after typing the "shutdown -a" thingy. So I
went to the Symantec link that scans my computer for
viruses, and it said I had one--"C:\WINDOWS\System32
\msblast.exe infected with W32.Blaster.worm". So then I
tried to purchase Norton Internet Security 2004, but IT
WOULDN'T LET ME! I got to the page where it shows your
order, then I clicked "proceed to checkout" and it came
up as an error page--you know, like the generic ones you
get when you get disconnected or when you go to an
invalid link. I tried it like a bazillion times too.
And now onto my second problem, my Windows Update doesn't
work!!! I went to the Start menu and clicked on Windows
Update, and instead of starting up and going to the
website or opening up the Windows Update wizard thing, it
doesn't do anything at all. IT WON'T RUN. I went to the
www.windowsupdate.com website to try to run it myself--
and it told me i had an ERROR!!!! So then I tried to
send an email to the windows update support response
people, and when i clicked on that link, it gave me the
generic error page again!!!
So that's it. I give up. There is no winning to this
whole computer thing. I miss the days when I didn't have
to spend 20 hours a day in front of this machine, most of
which it seems like are spent just MAINTAINING the
things.
I guess I will TRY to find a removal tool for that
blaster worm and see if it works.
But what should I do?? I know I need to get windows
update and symantec security up and running again,
especially since I have an online course this semester.
Thanks,
Jessica
P.S. I have had this virus on my computer for several
months now; it is not a new virus---I just waited forever
to do anything about it.
