I agree with you about the quantity of infectors that the online scans
look for. I do not use Stinger as an "investigational tool". I use it
to get the machine cleaned up enough to move on to a more full-featured
av. Personally, I prefer to scan with TrendMicro's SysClean tool, but
it requires more skill than most home computer users have.

I very clearly state in my directions that Stinger is a first step, not
the last one.

I like F-Prot and actually use it on all my Windows boxen. I use it to
scan in DOS when I have an infected machine running an older Windows
operating system. However, 32-bit F-Prot needs to be installed and many
of the infected machines are infected with malware that breaks av. You
have to get the box cleaned up first.
