I'm inclined to suspect it's a hardware problem.
You need to at least say what type of graphic card you have and some system
basic info.
However, the half hour clue may relate to a faulty cooling fan either on
your Graphic card (if it's a new
hi-power type, or maybe even your CPU fan.
Check inside your case to make sure all fans are spinning,
and leave the case open a while
(taking all precautions that nothing can enter it while it's open)
to check that fans stay spinning
(multi-speed fans may have a faulty control unit)
or if the additional cooling helps the system to remain stable.
Contrary to popular belief, most modern viruses/trojans want you working
away normally so they can
exploit you, and particularly your internet connection.
Not trash your system.
