Because there are a billion computers in the world and even
a few get reported here, asking for help because as the
title says, this is a public security newsgroup with a
subject of viruses. MS-DOS, W3.x,W95, W98, ME are infected
by one type of virus and worm and NT and XP are infected
with other types. Both require care, NT/XP with NTFS file
systems have advantages over FAT file systems.
All computers, whether a Mac, IBM mainframe, or a PC require
security, anti-virus and routine service/maintenance.

| So why are there so many reports of viruses in this news
group?
| Windows98SE is unaffected by blaster and other RPC
viruses.
