Opinions about What is the best anti-virus software for a Windows 2000
Server?
Protecting the Server is critcal. We don't surf the web or use e-mail
on the server, but the connection is there to share our DSL & run
Windows updates on the server. Is there anyway to turn off the
Internet connection on the server & still share the DSL connnection
with the PCs? We have a Netgear NP614 Internet Router, but I think
the Windows 2000 Server is still involved. At least for keeping our
branch in another state online via dedicated line.
Currently running InoculateIT from Computer Associates. It appears to
have done a decent job of protecting the server for the past several
years. Every now and then something has slipped though the cracks on
the Windows 98 clients.
It's time to upgrade or replace it, so I wanted to see what people in
this group have to say about it. Primary concern is the Windows 2000
Server. I can fix the other pcs myself if needed, but obviously would
rather have the anti-virus software work in the first place.
I'm also concerned about Spyware, and would prefer a package that is
combine Anti-Virus/Spyware protection.
Upgrading InoculateIT is probably the easiest thing to do since it's
already configured & installed.
I really like Trend Micro's online Housecall scanner, and have heard
good things about their anti-virus programs.
I've found the standard version of Norton Anti-virus seems to be a
target a bit like Microsoft, so I almost wonder if I should stay clear
of that for the server. I've also read a lot of bad reviews about
Norton Anti-virus 2004.
