I have removed zestyfind from client computers in the past with great
success. You should never have to format but once and a while it is a
good practice if your computer has multiple users who know nothing about
computers. Files get lost/misplaced.....associations get messy..
registry gets clogged and system performance is slow.

You can almost always salvage a system if it is a software problem - but
sometimes the time spent on solving the issue outweighs the time it
would take to format the drive.... depending on the importance of your
data. If it is important then it could be costly to format if you do
not have a solid backup plan in place.

So if you dont care about your data then just put your windows disk in
the drive and hit a key when it says boot from cd and then format
it/re-install/get a virus scanner/windowsupdate.... If you don't patch
these XP machines on a fresh install they will get the SASSER virus or
the BLASTER in under 30 seconds from being online... this happened to me
with a dialup client of mine. You almost want to get the sasser and
blaster patches and fixes and put it on a cd and install it before you
plug it into the net. Or just get it online...download a virus scanner
and do the windows update and maybe you will get lucky....and if you
don't then you will get a lesson in removing sasser or blaster :)

So maybe you just want to try to fix the problem first. When you get a
good copy of windows working get a copy of Norton GoBack this is a
lifesaver at times. Run the GoBack program - it is like system restore
except it stores an exact image of the current hard drive state. So if
you get a virus....you just 'goback' and it goes back to the date you
saved the image:)

Do install virus scanning software and spybot and adaware... if you ask
me in the future these programs should come with windows and run
automatically. They are mandatory if you have a computer on the
internet and you care about security and privacy of your personal
information. Hijackthis should get rid of zestyfind too.. run the
scans in safe mode if you cant get rid of it.

heres a little something on zestyfind:

I hope that helps,
