The difference, beginning with the 2004 versions has something to do, I
believe, with Symantec's switch to 'product activation'. Not only could
earlier 'Personal' versions be installed on multiple systems, all with 365
days access to virus definition updates, but renewal of access only
required uninstalling, then reinstalling. Symantec wanted to recapture all
those 'running free' revenue streams, and didn't get it quite right.
