I have exactly the same problem - but only since I used Windows Update. I cannot enable auto-protect or email scanning and I cannot access symantec.com - it asks me for a id and password. I have downloaded the virus definitions from www.sarc.com. But, I saw somewhere that there might be a bug in XP that stops 3rd party programs from functioning properly...trying to find the source from that, in the meantime, is there any info on this possibility?
