Hi Janice,

The patch you are referring to, if you obtained it from Windows Update or
from the Microsoft download center, would not have anything to do with the
hijacking you experienced. From the sounds of it, your system already had a
virus related issue and this may have caused the crash you had.

Always remember that Microsoft never sends security updates as attachments
in email. To be sure that you are not being tricked in to going to a site
that "looks" like a Microsoft site when clicking on a link, I recommend that
you physically type the link to www.microsoft.com in to your browser or
click the Windows Update option from the start menu or from within IE (Tools
menu > Windows Update).

If you ever have problems installing a security update from Microsoft, you
can call 1-866-PCSafety in the US for free support.
