Disconnect the network cable.
Reboot in Safe mode, without networking.
Activate the Internet Connection Firewall on all network interfaces.
I think those steps should allow you to get up and running, and able to
reboot in normal mode, if Sasser is what is happening--Sasser is not the
only critter that can cause similar symptoms, however.
You might want to read through the Microsoft instructions I posted with the
heading "Instructions......" today. They are very thorough and precise, and
I haven't absorbed them fully myself yet!
