He also said:
The administrator doesn't like me and doesn't know how to turn off the
mandatory "File System Real-time Protection" for my computer. The
administrator who turned on doesn't work here anymore.
This implied to me that he at least asked, and that the Admin might be
interested in hearing how to do the job. Maybe I should actually look that
up!
On balance, I'm inclined to agree with you that we've given Dmitriy
sufficient help--this is a bit like the threads in Work_remotely where folks
want to know how to run Remote Desktop from their work locations to talk to
their home machines when the work location has a firewall or proxy setup.
There's a limit to how much precise information I'm willing to impart
basically to help somebody do an end run around their admin--regardless of
how much they assure us that the admins don't care, or their motivations are
pure, or whatever....
I'd rather solve the 5x performance hit, however, but I also tire of being
Symantec's tech support operation--that isn't what we are here for either,
and although Symantec's KB is pretty good, I do wish they'd provide their
own peer support forum--darn near everybody else does.
