Noelle: I started getting the same notice right after I
downloaded the new critical windows updates on the 13th' in
fact the first appearance was after the install and reboot for
the updates. I don't use instant messaging either, but I have
the program on my computer, and I believe its a notice for the
latest version of MSN Messenger (6.2...) After ticking "no"
and cancel for several days it stopped. I don't think you
have a problem if nothing else is amiss and you follow the "3
steps to protect your computer" from MS. I don't know if that
is the answer, but hopefully it is. I have a properly
configured firewall/antiviral, XP Home with (SP1) and never
receive the other type of messenger pop ups (NetSend) with
the Internet advertisements, so I didn't need to turn off
Messenger, and I agree with Bruce that turning off Messenger
will not affect this particular program (Windows/MSN Instant
Messaging). Good Luck, hope it goes away as mine has.

| Hi,
|
| Just lately I have been getting a pop up window on my
desktop which
| sometimes needs two or three clicks to get rid of, and it is
becoming
| annoying.
|
| It purports to be a message from MSN telling me that I
cannot continue
| without installing a new update to Messenger. I do not use
Windows
| Messenger.
|
| Do I have a problem?
|
| Regards
| Sian
