Two days ago, via pop-up HTML page, my DELL 4400 (XP-SP1
w/all patches up-to-date) contracted a virus. NORTON red
warning pop-up said "Bloodhound.Exploit.6" and "Access
denied." Because NORTON AV was also up-to-date, I
presumed NORTON denied Bloodhound.Exploit.6 access to any
files. W-R-O-N-G. I went on my merry way without
further thought and shut down as usual. On the following
start-up, NORTON AV presented a pop-up indicating NAV
could not find the NAV status data file. I closed the
NAV pop-up and noted the typical NAV window did not show
any record of the "Security Scanning Features" (4 items)
and "Virus Definition Service" (3 items). Further, "Full
System Scan" did not work. I ran "Scan for
Viruses"; "Scan Drives"; which reported "No Virus Found."

Next, I ran "Windows Update" which displayed an error
message saying there was a problem of some sort. I came
to "Discussions in Windows Update" and found:

Mae is the genuis who cured it with the post to
"Norton Antivirus is not working either windows
update nor my system restore" thread of 4/1/2004.
The CWshredder zip from Kellys korner fixed me
right up. Once again thanks. Tom

Mae's post: "Norton Antivirus is not working either
windows update nor my system restore" thread of 4/1/2004
provides a URL to download "CWshredder.zip":

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/cwshredder.zip

I downloaded the .zip; extracted and ran CWshredder.exe;
was provided a link to the latest version of
CWshredder.exe; downloaded and ran the latest version.

I am pleased to report cwshredder.zip is the magic
bullet I needed to kill Bloodhound.Exploit.6.

My deepest appreciation to Mae and Tom (ACKoa) for
providing a remedy.
