Symantec bad practices

I was using Symantecs live update feature. I was presented with an upgrade ad, that did not allow me to exit outside of using Task Manager. I was annoyed to have the popup, and angry to have to use task manager to exit. This seems to me to be very bad practice to try force a user to buy anything against their will.

I wonder if they use other shoddy techniques to improve their revenue stream like release viruses that they fix?
