Unkown file on desktop

On two occasions I've had a file with just the tilde as a name. "~" The
icon shows it being an unknown filetype. I can erase it. The contents
include all my e-mail addresses. I've run all the online scans and updates
but nothing seems to find it. Any suggestions? I'm running Windows XP home
edition.
