I have not come across any forged virus-spam IP-addresses. A forged
IP-address would require the complicity of at least one mail serve due
to the challenge-response nature of the SMTP. Another way would be for
the originator to guess the challenge of the mail-server of course and
I'm sure that can be accomplished. I was under the impression that most
of the spam as well as virus spam is sent by turning someones machine
into a spammachine and by use of open relay servers and servers that do
not record IP-addresses at all. Or perhaps my understanding of the SMTP
is flawed in some way, I would be very grateful for any info if that is
the case.
