Weird Win 32K.sys and Hieroglyphics

Recently had a Bsod referring to win32 k.sys.
On reboot the labels on all items and all applications contained
garbage --looked a bit like machine code.
I eventually managed a system restore and have searched for virus thingies
etc.

Anyone got any experience of this.
