Cable modem here. Internet connection via LAN to router to cable modem.
The article seems to be describing a telco auto-connection.
The symptoms described are identical.
Problem is, this has never happened before. The article was written over a
year ago.
LAN internet connections via cable modems are auto-connect types without
dial-up, always connected. My settings for connection have via ZA Pro have
never changed. Netdectect has to have my approval to access the internet.
Have concluded that the Symantec Server was unavailable during the 5 minute
interludes. Netdetect is back to normal now on my PC and waits 4 hours.
Changed the 5 minute thing in task scheduler to two hours.
