nimda.e infected computer

My friend got his W98 computer heavily infected with
several viruses (close to 1500 instances on two drives). I
have run Trend Micro stand alone cleaning program and
dealt with most of the bugs, except Nimda.e

There are several hundred Nimda infected files. The name
shown was sample.exe. The cleaning program says that both
clean and move actions failed. Is there a way I can
automatically remove the infected files, as doing it one
by one is too lengthy? I cannot search for sample.exe, as
Windows Explorer does not work, nor any of the selections
under settings/control panel, like e.g., add/remove
programs. Access to the internet from the box is so so. I
can open regedit. Finally, I have full access to the
internet from my own computers.

Also, if it comes to reinstalling the OS, he still has the
CD with W98 but cannot find the key. Does one need the key
for reinstallation and/or repair? If so, what to do?

Will appreciate any serious advises (as the infection is
not a joke), and, yes I know what to advise my friend
AFTER the computer is cleaned, provided we can do that.

Thanks, Adam
