Software problem. NOT a virus, worm or Trojan. And because it says "illegal" operation.
Please don't call the Police. :-)

| I keep getting the following error message:
| The program has performed an illegal operation
| and will be shut down. If the problem persists
| contact the program vendor.
| Then after clicking cancel 4 or 5 times, my
| wall paper disappears and the following comes up:
| Active Desktop Recovery - IE has experienced
| a problem or error, as a precaution your Active
| desktop has been temporarily shut down.
| Then it gives me instructions to restore it,
| but it wont let me do it. The error message just
| keeps popping up, it won't even run my Windows 98
| disc or Norton antivirus disc. Major crash here.
| Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
