Well out here in old GTE West land, they had some good people :-) I worked
for them for 18 years, but actually in a different group, GTE Spacenet. Yes
the tech support has gone down.
The thing that is maddening, if I go to the Westell site and try to get any
info on the 2100 Modem that I have, you just get a message that this info is
only available thru your ISP. I had to go to the DSL Reports web page to
find a manual. And...the Verizon CD that goes thru install is enough to
drive you nuts ! It has page after page on how to open the box, how to plug
in a two way RJ11 adapter, Filters etc... and all are very detailed and you
can not skip them, its like "Phone Class 001"

I asked the "tech person" to do a simple loopback thru my modem to prove
that my line was not set up or the modem was dead and the person had no idea
what I was talking about, I finally got a supervisor, but the help center
is not collocated with any of the sites that can do loopbacks. Ugh ! In the
"old days" I had my GTE ADSL up in about 20 mins. and the tech support site
was collocated with the group that could do loopbacks and line tests. Also
the strange problem I had on the dialup with being able to receive and not
send. I just for the fun of it tried the second number listed for the area
and guess what, it works perfectly. Now that is a strange one !
However at least in the DSL Report "Score Card" the Verizon West service
does come out with a A+ on everything except the strange Verizon Software.
And I refuse to go cable, its Comcast (ex ATT) so have my biases already on
that one...
Hope to see ya on DSL Monday !
Tedd
