Thanks, i had seen these both through google searches and
still couldn't find an answer. But while I was exploring
the various startup folders (which didnt contain the
sonic updater) i found a sonic folder nearby. I used
add/remove programs to find the update manager program
and a link to sonic website. The IBM recordnow was made
by sonic and at least I know this is a valid program.

I wonder if I've learned my lesson and will search a
little deeper next time before posting.
