Hey,
You might probable wanna run an online scan like spybot that will detect malware and spyware.
Most of these antivirus s/w's do not detect them.

It probably is not, Symantec has wanted to access the internet since
the 7th Jan update as there was a problem with its security
certificate.
Have you run the anti trojan software that was recommended ?
