I'd say that it encountered a problem. Seriously
though, this issue is one that you might get better
assistance with from the newsgroup specifically devoted
to Windows Update issues - microsoft.public.windowsupdate
If your browser is set up like mine, there are community
newsgroups listed on the left of your screen, and it is
under Windows (click the "+"), Windows Updates.
Having any download hang is not uncommon. Could be a
problem on your end, or it could be a problem getting
packets from them to you. That specific patch has
information regarding needed hard disk space (Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article - 326583 ), which you might check
into if it is possible that space is an issue.
I have at times gone to the Windows update site and
found that they had a critical update I needed that I
hadn't yet been prompted to get by auto-update - this has
happened when a patch was newly released.
If you want a non-expert suggestion: you might check
in Add/Remove programs and remove Q326583 if it is there,
and immediately go to Windows update and try and get it,
to see if this corrects the "in progress/ 0 updates"
problem. The update newsgroup would be much better
qualified to advise you though.
