Unfortunately, you have been fooled by a virus. It has
tricked you into purposefully infecting your own computer.

The email you received was not from Microsoft, it was
simply designed to look that way.

If you were to have had antivirus software in place, it
would have warned you that the attachment was infected.

It could have been any of a number of viruses which make
themselves look like they were sent by Microsoft. Your
best bet is to download and run McAfee's Stinger tool,
which cleans some of the most common viruses around,
but does not offer you protection against future reinfection.

You can get the stinger tool from here: http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger

Once you have cleaned your computer with this tool, you
are advised to get some antivirus software in place, and
to ensure that you keep it updated regularly.

You can even get some for free, at http://www.grisoft.com

You should follow the 3 steps to windows protection, at
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect

If you need help with any of this, Microsoft offer free
phone support for help with viruses. If you live in the
USA, simply call 1-866-PCSAFETY

Good luck!
