People and Viruses

I've been in computers professionally for 28+ years (DBA, Systems
Admin, etc on mid and mainframe computers) and I'm still amazed at
people don't have their systems protected from viruses, and that they
don't use a reputable one like Norton/Symantec, especially when the
cost is only around $40.00. Then when their computer is hit with a
virus, they complain.

It's the responsibiliity of any computer owner to insure that their
computer is protected. In today's information age, there's no excuse
for the individual not to call for example COMPUSA, etc and ask
questions, let alone friends. On the computers in my place, I have a
hardware firewall, software firewall and norton antivirus.

The only time I got hit with viruses was in 1995, and a major
company's anti virus (I won't say which one, to protect me legally)
software didn't catch the viruses. I then purchased Norton Antivirus,
and it cleaned my system of over 600 viruses. How did I get these
viruses? Sharing business related files with a co-worker, and the
antivirus software didn't catch them.

I swear by Norton antivirus, and swear at all others. The people that
don't put antivirus software on their machines have no leg to stand on
when their computer becomes infected.
