Neil:

All I can suggest is using a McAfee Emergency Boot Disk

http://vil.nai.com/vil/virus-4e.asp

Download the Bootscan version place on bootable floppy and scan the hard disk.

An alterenate would be Invircible's Ivinit
http://www.invircible.com/iv_tools.php#Ivinit

Give that a shot and PLEASE report back to this thread with your results.

| Adam,
| I have had exactly the same problem - outlined in my
| previous post on the same day - "virus help". I received
| a pop-up that stated "Spy ware detected on your computer.
| Want to delete it" Stupidly I hit "yes" and my problems
| began. When I launch Windows I end up with a blank
| desktop and a cursor - nothing else.
| In respone to my post, David suggested (as Taff did to
| yours) that it may be an os problem rather than a virus.
| However, as we both have the same problem at the same
| time, its sounding like some kind of virus to me.
| I also tried Safe Mode and the same thing happened as
| normal mode. I've tried reinstalling with my win 98 disc
| but nothing happens - the disc wont launch.
| If theres any advice out there Id love to hear it.
| Cheers
| Neil
