Home page URL substitution

My default home page URL is continually being changed to
a URL I do not recognize. One this happens, I am unable
to make internet connections. I have to reset the
default URL and restart my computer (Windows XP Home
Edition) several times in order to clear the problem.
And, of course, it inevitably happens again thereafter.
I don't know enough about XP to find the program which is
substituting this unwanted URL, so I'm not sure how to
find and fix the problem for good.

Can anyone suggest how I might solve this problem? Thanks
