I don't think I'd say that the original patch was flawed. It still protects
against the exploit it was designed to protect against, and doesn't have
side effects that have people clamoring to remove it.
The newer patch protects against the original exploit and several newer
vulnerabilities not known at the time of the original patch--so it is
"better"--but that doesn't make the original patch "flawed" does it?
You do want to install the newer patch whether or not you've installed the
original patch, because of the additional vulnerabilities it covers.
