> I have a question for all you computer-wisers out there. My computer
has recently developed a rather annoying condition. We all know that when
one initiates IE that it will load up the specified homepage in one's
internet options. However, somehow or someway, some hacker has found a way
to undermine my preferences and even "mask" the URL.. or fool the computer
into thinking it's loading up the URL I want. For instance, my homepage is
"www.msn.com". When I initiate IE I see the message displaying "finding
www.msn.com... page found... loading", and in the address box it says
www.msn.com, but it's actually a damn page called www.easy-search.com! I
will manually type in the URL I want and it will still take me to this page
or one similar. I have tried changing the homepage several times, but when
I do that, it still takes me to easy-search. Here's the most annoying part
though. Every address that I have entered into the homepage slot has
forever been corrupted from there on. Google, MSN, hotmail... I type them
in, attempting to reach that page, and instead it takes me to
www.easy-search.com (may not have the hyphen) or some meta-search page. I
though pop-ups were low, but this is the lowest yet. I have tried
downloading service packs, updates, anything that held promise of fixing
this but nothing seems to work. My last hope is to delete IE completely and
reinstall... but I have this lingering feeling that the problem will
persist. Does anyone have a clue as to how someone might have done this? A
friend of mine suggested that someone may have infected my computer with a
java program that is screwing with the HTML code. I don't know much about
programming, so either way this is very distressing. I just find it odd
that whatever the URL in that "homepage" slot is becomes transformed into
this annoying search pages that only give sponsoring business' references.
It will say www.msn.com or www.google.com or www.hotmail.com, when infact it
is not that website! Can anyone help me with this, please?
