Beep codes are supposed to let you know of an error
condition in your machine. Sadly, exactly what the number
of beeps means, varies by manufacturer, and may not even
be consistent within that setting. Sometimes, even a
healthy machine decides that just this once it will not
boot properly, it beeps a few times, and all that is
needed is to reboot. If rebooting a couple times has not
solved the problem, there probably is indeed something
actually wrong.
If you have experience safely messing around inside
your machine, check to see that everything is seated
properly - memory cards solidly down in place, video cards
likewise. If you are not used to messing around inside
your machine and have a friend you trust who is, enlist
their help. Failing that, you will probably need to
contact a repair person.
Loose/dead memory, loose/dead graphics cards, sick
motherboards and sick processors, are among the prime
candidates for causing this kind of behavior.
