I do keep a log of the number of the various types. For
example, I see that the volumn often peaks around 3am (in
the Chicago area), which probably says something about
where in the world the infected machines are located.
Also, I see about a 50/50 split between the fake MS update
messages (w/ attachment) and the fake "mail delivery
failure" notices. Various "broken" verions are more rare,
most of which are not infected.
However, I should investigate your suggestion. It sounds
like it deletes the messages on the server before they are
downloaded to me. However, if I have to run it
periodically, this may not free me from the requirement to
stay connected, downloading messages, to prevent exceeding
limits on the server. When this happens, my account is
disabled. At present, if my Internet connection breaks
after I go to bed, my account is disabled when I wake up.
