Remember, we're talking about Windows Platforms 95,98
and ME and my book was written for basic home computer
users only. It's has since grown into a book which
will help three levels of computer Windows users.
BTW- Crackers won't ever receive my respect and this
is why "I" call them hackers.
The following is from a reviewer with the nick name of
"Daniel"
>Phone calls were made to these Internet Service
Providers and their >representatives informed me that
it's impossible to remove the 10-20 free >hours
provided with Cable/DSL dial-up accounts. A major
company should >have the capability to shut this
avenue down on closure of any account.
This is incorrect most major ISPs simply restrict
access to their news servers by IP. Wrong IP no news.
For the companies out there that use authentication
the account terminates when they terminate your
account. This is handled by back end software that the
user never sees.
ME: We aren't talking about News Servers here (at the
moment), only Cable and DSL companies I've had which
didn't shut down/close the dial-up access they
provided with these accounts. See my other Reviews
1-4.
ME: Earthlink News Server - I was able to use it after
my account was closed. I don't remember the e-mail
addresses used at the time, but I posted on
alt.pets.ferrets with AT&T being my main host and
Earthlink on the back end.
>>> I was able to dial into my canceled Cable/DSL ISP
Exclusive forms of connection. Unless she is saying
the ISP in question had dial in back ups for if the
service went down. In that instance it is sloppy
administration nothing more.
ME: Read Review 1-4. The only new item I can try to
address is my willingness to
e-mail you my copy of Zone Alarm which hosted the
Redwood Broker Backdoor which loads an SQL Server and
it will pop up a Window Dial-Up Server showing the
three canceled accounts I had, months after these
Internet Service Provider accounts were closed down.
The computer has to be online for this to be revealed.
In my book, I suggested no one try this out because
it's against the law, but I control no one. All I
did was install a copy of Zone Alarm on a system
running Windows XP, put the computer on the Internet
and I ran netstat -a over a 3 minute period. God gave
me the gifts from then on there. Windows services
weren't disabled when the computer was put online.
> C. All Cable/DSL customers both business and
>non-business, with dial-up access are vulnerable to a
>number of hackers using this free dial->up avenue.
Wrong MOST Cable ISPs restrict access to mail and news
by IP.
ME: We aren't talking about Mail and News Services,
just dial-up accounts for Cable and DSL users when
their account is canceled. See other Reviews.
>This is a loss of $24 a month x's 50,000 = $1.2
million a month, x's this >by 12 months = $14.4
million a year loss in company revenue which could >be
in your pocket. Estimated the above by the amount of
attacks our >compromised computers were receiving on
a daily, weekly and monthly >basis.
Meaningless most people the author identifies as
"Hackers" would go nutz on dial up. There are more
effective means of concealing ones identity online and
not having to suffer at dial up speeds
ME: In my possession are many hard drives from
victims who only used a dial-up connection and hackers
do prefer to use dial-up over Cable and DSL. My only
guess would be because the dial-up IP address changes
often and this would be harder for anyone to track
down the hacker. I'm not going to fight you nor
anyone else on this issue, deal with it.
A PROPERLY compromised proxy or one that is configured
for privacy will keep all but law enforcement out of
the loop. Further there are enough free sources on the
Internet for mail and news that I don't think the
quoted prices are accurate. For example mail and news
services can be had for 5$ to 7$ per month. Adjust
figures and re-compute. Now factor in a little effort
on the part of the person seeking the services and the
cost are 0. Adjust figures and re-compute.
ME: Hackers set-up and configure Proxy Servers, Mail
and News Servers on victims computers all the time.
Am sorry that you don't understand this and it's your
choice to be blind. I've shut down a few Websites
which were listing innocent victims Proxy Server IP
addresses and this babe is damn proud of my
accomplishments. The victims haven't set-up any logs
so it would be impossible to track any of the hackers
who are abusing the above mentioned; period. Also,
consider a hacker who will chain or bounce let's say,
50 innocent victims Proxy Servers and they change
their computers date and time for each connection to
them; what do you have and how can anyone track them
down.
