Can a virus cause problem with CD-ROM?

I've been using a DVD-ROM and CD-RW on my Win2k
professional computer for a while. Recently I've been hit
by a few viruses including backdoor.sdbot. I think the
viruses are now cleaned up because I cannot detected them
with my Norton Antivirus (with update virus list) and the
Symantec Online virus scanning. However I cannot no longer
detect my DVD-ROM and CD-RW in my Windows Explorer (only c-
drive). Does anybody know of any virus that can cause
problem with CD-ROMs and how to clean it?

When I check the Device Manager there are yellow
exclamation marks at the two devices. I check the
manufacturer LG Electronics for any driver updates but
they say that the devices are plug&play and that windows
should detect them without any problem which obviously
doesn't happen in my case.
