You can be infected via merely opening the message if your browser is not
properly patched.
You would know quite quickly whether you are infected, however--there are a
variety of spurious error messages this thing displays.
Simply deleting the thing, and then deleting it from deleted messages (if
applicable) is sufficient.
If you are in doubt about possible infection, run a cleaner app from either
Symantec or McAfee just for peace of mind.
