Salut/Hi Dudley Henriques,
How nice to see someone who talks common-sense.

Exactly. And in truth a comparatively minor one, IMO, if one behaves
reasonably sensibly, running a decent auto-updating anti-virus, using
anything _other_ than OE (whose address book is always the prime target of
virus writers) and behaving in an intelligently paranoid way!
> My problem is directly related to the 500 POTENTIALvirus e-mails that are appearing hourly
Exactly. These blessed worm emails are either 143k or 156k (or
thereabouts). With some 300-400 coming in a day, that's a LOT of megabytes,
(42 odd) which I would have to download in full before my email client can
filter or my anti-virus detect. I live in a place which doesn't have access
to broadband, so download at a real speed of around 5kb a second, which
things are going well. 42Mb/5k = 2 hours or so which I have to pay for JUST
to download a virus that my ISP could filter on as easily as I can!
My solution has been to go online 3-4 times a day and use the ISP's webmail
service, deleting unread any file of the appopriate size. It's not perfect,
but it works. Another solution would be to use my email client's ability to
refuse messages over a given size, which reduces download time dramtically,
but also has the down side that I have to ask any legitimate sender to
RE-send any large files, so I can set me reader appropriately. All a right
royal wate of time, and all because Microsoft WILL not design an
intrinsically safe operating system.
