No Microsoft can't simply clear the posts.
Public newsgroups don't work like that.
Sure they can clear their copy on their server.
But this is useless and some valuable information
will just be lost.
Many many many many...other servers have the copy of
all messages. And not just for microsoft groups. For example:
http://groups.google.com/groups?group=microsoft
And many decent ISPs provide newsgroups support
and cache their own copy of ALL the posts on their own news
servers.
So as you see it can't be simply cleared.
This is how newsgroups worked for who know how
long. (Google has posts from 1981)
