Jeffrey,
Thanks for the clarification. This still leaves my basic problem of how to
access the private keys in a store (to use in decrypting some data) without
altering the local cert store(s). PKCS12 is convenient because the Windows
Export Cert wizard uses this format when you export a certificate with the
corresponding private key. Is there some other format that I could use to
export the cert/private key pair that would allow me to open the store from
a blob or file? The PKCS7 provider probably works but it doesn't include
the private key.
Regards,
George.

Hi RossettoeCioccolato,
I have performed some search in our internal database and found a related
bug record. Based on the bug record, CERT_STORE_PROV_PKCS12 is added and
intended to be Longhorn server only. It seems that the public MSDN
document
did not add a ntoe for this issue. Thank you for pointing it out.
I will try to forward this issue to the MSDN document team to correct it.
Thanks.
Best regards,
Jeffrey Tan
