Never mind. Figured it out.
Turns out the NTLM settings in the Local Security Policy were set to
highest levels on the server, but not on the client. Modifying these
settings appropriately let me authenticate my user.

I would have thought that since my client is Windows XP and my Server
is Win2k3, the highest settings would have been negotiated between the
two machines. I'll have to read up a bit more on these settings,
obviously.
