counter sign question

    i have successfully countersigned a data and store it as a PKCS#7 file(sign.p7s). I first sign the data with Cert1.cer and then with cert2.cer. When i read the contents from the sign.p7s ie i am trying to display the cert used for signing, it shows me the contents of cert1 instead of cert2. ie it shows the contents of the signer cert and not the countersigner cert. Is this common??in what format is the conetnts of the countersigned file stored.
